COMMUNITY INFORMATION

Building Codes

Safety is most important when building a home or business.  Especially when it is in the SFHA.  The CIty of Bay St. Louis has adopted the 2012 International Building Codes to ensure your safety, as well as that of your neighbors is met.

Elevation Certificate

An Elevation Certificate (EC) is an administrative tool of the NFIP which is to be used to provide elevation information necessary to ensure compliance with community floodplain management ordinances, and to determine the proper insurance premium rates.

An EC is required before a building permit can be issued to structures in the SFHA.  A community's permit file must have an official record that shows new buildings elevations and all substantial improvements in the SFHA are properly elevated.

The City also maintains a list of Elevation Certificates for properties throughout its jurisdictions.  To search the list of older certificates, Click Here.  For 2014  certificates, Click Here.

Community Rating System (CRS)

The City of Bay St. Louis participates in the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) which is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed minimum NFIP requirements.

As a result of these activites, Bay St. Louis currently is a Class 7 which gives residents and business owners in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) a 15% premium reduction on their flood insurance and a 5% reduction to those outside the SFHA.
